Hello there...

Photo: Carl Troein

Meet Carl Troein, new co-worker at CIPA since June 2020. Carl has a background in physics and computational biology and is a 2D spectroscopy analysis expert.

Can you tell us about your role at CIPA?

Certainly! I've been recruited to help researchers working with spectroscopic 2D imaging. In particular, I am focusing on developing methods and tools for processing vibrational spectroscopy data, including the new and exciting optical photothermal infrared technique (mIRage).

Why should researchers turn to CIPA for services?

The CIPA experts offer a wide range of experience and expertise that researchers can take advantage of, whether they need input on the choice of analysis methods, assistance with selecting and applying software, or even help with developing new data processing steps.

Who is your primary target audience?

Local users of spectroscopic imaging techniques, such as Raman and infrared absorption, will be my primary users, as I focus on the need for preprocessing and analysis methods.

Looking forward to anything particular this fall?

I am hosting a workshop in November, where I hope to make new connections and get a better overview of how local researchers are currently working with these types of data. On the method development side, I hope to solve specific problems relating to background correction for the new mIRage technique.
